Composer, conductor, and interdisciplinary artist Maya Miro Johnson (age 21), from Salt Lake City, Utah, has composed for Ensemble Intercontemporain, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Sarasota Festival, loadbang, and others. Currently a senior at Curtis, she also studies with Chaya Czernowin and serves as a cover conductor for the Minnesota Orchestra. Winner of Schuman and Surinach Prizes in the 2020 BMI Awards, she’s featured on albums including HOCKET’s #What2020LooksLike, Johnny Gandelsman’s This is America, and Inna Faliks’ The Master and Margarita Project, with summer studies at NYO-USA, BUTI, soundSCAPE, Cabrillo, Fresh Inc., Miguel Harth-Bedoya’s Conducting Institute, Bergen International Festival, and Aspen.
