Maya Miro Johnson

Maya Miro Johnson (age 22) is a composer and interdisciplinary artist from Salt Lake City, Utah. She has written for Ensemble Intercontemporain, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Sarasota Festival, loadbang, and others. Currently in her 5th year at Curtis, she has also studied with Chaya Czernowin and served as a cover conductor for the Minnesota Orchestra. Winner of Schuman and Surinach Prizes in the 2020 BMI Awards, she appears on albums including HOCKET’s #What2020LooksLike, Johnny Gandelsman’s This is America, Inna Faliks’ Manuscripts Don’t Burn, and the documentary The Conductor. She has spent summers studying at Copland House CULTIVATE, Baltic Sea Festival, soundSCAPE, Cabrillo, Fresh Inc., Bergen International Festival, Aspen, NYO-USA, BUTI, and with Miguel Harth-Bedoya.
